Our Legacy and Founder: Jeffry J Thelen

Thelen Cabinet Company has a rich history built on craftsmanship, dedication, and family tradition. It all started in 1968 when Jeff Thelen opened his first shop—not with wood and saws, but a music shop in small town Farmington, Minnesota. By 1973, he was headed to Vocational School in Northfield, MN, where he studied the craft of fine carpentry, soon building custom furniture for friends and family.

In 1977, Thelen Cabinet Company was incorporated in Minnesota, marking the beginning of a multi generation legacy. Jeff moved the business out of his family's plumbing shop and into his very own building in the historic downtown Farmington district. Growth was inevitable. In April 1991, Thelen Cabinet Company was first to break ground in the now established Farmington Industrial Park. Expanding further in 1993 we now occupy over 18,000 sq/ft of industrial custom cabinet making space. Throughout the '90s and 2000s, Thelen Cabinet Company became a trusted name in the Twin Cities, known for top-tier custom cabinetry for homeowners, builders, and remodelers. Big dreams and innovation may have outgrown our first shop, but our family has not outgrown a high quality, personable, custom cabinet experience.

Next Gen: Chad Thelen

Jeffs son Chad, grew up in the family business. From an early age Chads curiosity lead him into dads shop where he spent time watching, learning and lending a hand to dad and soon the Thelen Cabinet team.

Learning CAD, CNC and shop skills from cabinet makers before him, Chad stepped into co leading operations immediately after high school. By 2016, Chad Thelen stepped up and bought the company his father, Jeff started. Chads leadership is shaped not only by his in depth industry knowledge and experience, but also from discipline and commitment to service and community. Trained by generations of carpenters before him and guided by peers of the modern industry, Chad is embedded into the systems of custom cabinet making and has made an art of working them together.

Today as President and Owner, Chad Thelen continues the legacy. Driving Thelen Cabinet Company forward with the same dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and excellence that Jeff Thelen used to define the company from its humble beginnings 50 years ago.
